Camargo Puppy Calcutta

Camargo Puppy Calcutta

What is A Calcutta?

Huntsman Katherine shows off Shaggy.

A Calcutta auction (first originally seen in Calcutta, India) is a sequential auction, where the bidding for each contestant begins, with only one contestant being bid upon at a time. Participants/teams bid to “buy” each of the contestants. At the end of the tournament, the owner of the winning contestant is paid a predetermined proportion of the pool depending on how it performs in the tournament.

In our Puppy Calcutta, you can bid on our multiple “contestants” which are the new entries for this year’s season. During the hunt season, these puppies will be judged on their performance in the hunt field. At next year’s Calcutta, the winning puppy will appear on the 2025 lapel pin.

2025 Calcutta

We had a great Calcutta event in August to raise money for our hounds.  Hunt members and friends teamed up to wins bids on each of the hound pairings below.

Now, for the rest of the 2025-2026 season, our huntsman (along with input from staff) will score all 2025 Calcutta puppies entered in a day’s hunt.  At the end of the season, the puppy with the most points wins.  Members, follow the Hark weekly emails for more details on the puppies’ performances.

If puppies hunt well, they earn two points.  If they stand out with exceptional performance, they earn four points.  If they earn a “demerit,” for something such as getting lost, too much time away from the pack, etc, then they earn 0 points.

Our 2025 Contestants

These are the 2025 new Camargo entry (first-season hounds).  People won bids on the puppies as pairs, but their performance is judged independently.  Whichever hound wins at the end of the season will give bragging rights and commemorative pins to the successful bidders of that hound’s pairing.

PAIR 1: RAMBO & RAGNAR

Rambo and Ragnar at the Bryn Mawr Hound ShowRambo shines with his wonderful conformation and outstanding personality, earning first place at the Iroquois Puppy Show as an unentered dog hound in a huge class. Ragnar stands out as the only pup to compete and win in both his sire’s and dam’s winning classes at the Bryn Mawr Hound Show, showcasing his exceptional pedigree and versatility.
Together, this pair secured a 3rd place finish in the unentered couple of dogs at the Bryn Mawr Hound Show, highlighting their strong synergy. Both are striking mostly black and tan dog hounds, built with robust bodies and long legs, making them a compelling and dynamic duo poised to make an impact at the upcoming event.
Sire: Aspen
Bitch: Rainbow
Rambo and Ragnar have both been out with horses and had a taste of hunting and show themselves to be solid contenders

PAIR 2: ARTIST & ARTURO

2025 Hounds Artist and Arturo at the Iroquois Puppy Show.

Artist and Arturo are littermates sired by Shakerag Andrew out of CH Razzle, showcasing immense potential with their black back tri-color coats and bold personalities at the recent Iroquois Puppy Show. Handled with skill—Arturo by junior handler Ben Gash in the junior events and both in the main show by huntsman Katherine—they displayed “unbelievable joy de vivre and loads of confidence,” captivating the audience despite not securing major prizes. Their spirited performance, rooted in Shakerag Andrew’s lineage, marks them as promising talents for the Camargo Hunt’s future, aligning with the Calcutta’s Centennial celebration goals.
They have shown that same wonderful personality when out hunting. They are a fabulous pick!

PAIR 3: ARGYLE & RANGER

Camargo Centennial Hounds Argyle and RangerThese two remarkably great-looking pups are cousins, each bringing their own unique charm to the lineup. Argyle is sired by Andrew out of Razzle, while Ranger is sired by Aspen out of Rainbow. Both of these promising pups were just a touch small in early spring to earn any show ribbons, but they have impressively grown and filled out beautifully over the spring and summer months. These pups have truly shone in all of their outings, blending in so seamlessly with the group that you might momentarily forget they are still puppies. Ranger boasts a striking black and tan coat, much like his father and some of his siblings, complemented by a distinctive white star on his chest. Argyle, on the other hand, is vividly marked in a pattern reminiscent of his namesake, “an argyle sock,” featuring large, eye-catching black diamonds set against a stunning blue-tick coat. Both pups exhibit an earnest, nose-to-the-ground, workmanlike approach to life, showcasing their natural instincts and dedication.

PAIR 4: RASCAL (FLATTS) & RAWLINGS

Camargo Centennial Hounds Rascal (Flatts) and Rawlings This is an electrifying duo that’s sure to turn heads and spark excitement wherever they go. If you’re looking for a pair whose names will be on everyone’s lips and instantly recognizable, this is undoubtedly your match. This pair stands out as the most thrilling of the bunch—for one remarkable reason, it includes Calcutta’s one and only bitch, Rascal! Named Rascal by the Masters, she’s affectionately dubbed “Rascal Flatts” by the staff, a nod to the spirited and captivating nature of this pup that they clearly foresaw. With a stunning resemblance to her mother, Rainbow, Rascal is a true beauty, her presence alone lighting up the scene. Rascal and Rawlings are littermates, sharing a special bond that shines through in their performances.Rawlings is another standout in this dynamic pair, boasting a distinctive lemon and white coat that sets him apart from all his siblings. His star quality was evident this past spring when he teamed up with his dam, Rainbow, to secure a winning combination at Bryn Mawr in the brood bitch with two of get class. The extra attention he received during that time has wonderfully tempered his high-energy personality, helping him settle into what has been an exceptionally rewarding summer for both him and Rascal. Together, this littermate duo continues to impress, their vibrant spirits and unique flair making them a pair to watch.

PAIR 5: GOVERNOR & GONDOLA

Camargo Centennial Hounds Gondola and Governor Camargo Centennial Hounds Gondola and GovernorThese striking white and red puppies bring a truly unique and eye-catching appearance to our pack. Bred by friends down in Aiken, they hail from a distinguished lineage blending Genesee Valley and Stonewall Hounds bloodlines, boasting nearly pure American heritage—a proud 🇺🇸 legacy. This combination offers a promising outcross for us at Camargo, with hopes of enriching our future breeding lines with their exceptional genetics. These two pups are real go-getters, brimming with energy and enthusiasm that would have made them a delight to showcase and train in the show ring. However, their heavy American influence resulted in a slightly slower physical maturation compared to their more English counterparts, keeping them from competing at the top level this season. Don’t let that mislead you—these red and white rockets are up for any challenge! Governor stands out as one of the smartest pups in the kennels, a clever escape artist we affectionately call Houdini, requiring us to stay one step ahead with secure fastenings. Gondola, meanwhile, has proven his mettle with impressive performances during training pen sessions, showcasing his natural talent and drive. Far from the typically shy American types, both Governor and Gondola exude boldness and bravery, thriving on all their successful field trips. Though not bred by us at Camargo, this bloodline was carefully introduced for a purpose, and these pups are already proving their worth with their spirited presence and potential.

PAIR 6: JOHNNY 5 and CUPID

Johnny 5 and CupidIntroducing the final pair in this year’s Calcutta: Johnny 5 and Cupid, two spirited red littermates who, at 18 months, are the oldest entries and the last of their distinguished “red” line in our kennels. These near-identical pups may share striking red coats, but their personalities shine with distinct flair, promising an exciting hunt.

Johnny 5 is a larger-than-life character with a personality to match. This sociable hound has never met a stranger and is renowned for his enthusiastic kisses. Methodical in his approach, Johnny 5 stays close to the pack, making thoughtful choices that showcase his steady and reliable nature. He’s a fan favorite and will be a prominent figure at our Indian Hill fixtures, bringing charm and consistency to every hunt.

Cupid 💘, on the other hand, is the embodiment of speed, earning the nickname “Red Rocket” for his lightning-fast dashes. With a Ricky Bobby-esque need for speed, he races alongside the Polaris, leaving others in his dust. Despite his blazing pace, Cupid channels his energy with focus and has yet to use his speed for mischief—much to our relief! You’re most likely to spot this fleet-footed hound tearing through the fields of Owen County, a true spectacle of agility and drive.

Both Johnny 5 and Cupid got a taste of the action during last season’s final hunts, where they displayed an eager-to-please attitude that won hearts. While we’re not too strict about our “redshirt” rules, their early outings proved they’re ready to shine. Rest assured, when it’s time to hunt, these dynamic pups will sport their numbers with pride.

This pair is a stellar pick for the Calcutta, blending Johnny 5’s steady presence with Cupid’s electrifying speed. Don’t miss your chance to back these red-coated stars as they take on the fields with heart and hustle!
